For some video and device aspects ratios like 9:16 vertical videos on computer browsers, YouTube may add more padding for optimal viewing. The padding is white by default, and dark gray when Dark theme is turned on.

The following guidelines describe the formatting specifications that yield the highest quality for playing videos on YouTube. YouTube encourages partners to upload videos that are as close to the original, high quality source format as possible to increase the likelihood that your videos will play in higher quality (HQ). Note that YouTube always re-encodes videos to optimize their playback quality.

File format: YouTube prefers the original, 1080p HD broadcast format that you have in your digital content library, as well as DVD-compliant MPEG-2 program streams saved with a .MPG extension. If you cannot submit videos in MPEG-2 format, then MPEG-4 is the preferred format. The following specifications provide optimal playback of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 videos:

Aspect ratio: Videos should be in their native aspect ratios, and uploaded videos should never include letterboxing or pillarboxing bars. The YouTube player automatically frames videos to ensure that they are displayed correctly, without cropping or stretching, regardless of the size of the video or player. See Advanced encoding for visual examples.

Video resolution: YouTube prefers high-definition videos and, in general, you should provide videos in the highest resolution available to provide the maximum degree of flexibility in the encoding and playback processes. For videos intended for sale or rental, you should provide a minimum resolution of 1920x1080 with a 16:9 aspect ratio. For content with or without ads, YouTube does not set a minimum resolution but recommends a resolution of at least 1280x720 for video that has a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of at least 640x480 for video that has a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Video bitrate: Since bitrate is highly dependent on codec, there is no recommended minimum value. Videos should be optimized for frame rate, aspect ratio and resolution rather than bitrate. Bitrates of 50 or 80Mbps are common for videos intended for sale or rental.

If you are unable to encode your videos using the preferred specifications, you can still submit your video in .WMV, .AVI, .MOV and .FLV formats. In this case, we recommend that you upload the highest quality video possible. YouTube will still accept your video content and then re-encode your video files as necessary. However, the quality of your videos may not be optimal and could make your videos ineligible for HQ encoding. If you are not able to encode your videos using the preferred specifications, we recommend that you upload a few test videos online to ensure that you are satisfied with the playback quality on YouTube.

The following guidelines are for audio tracks that you provide to YouTube. These guidelines describe the formatting specifications that yield the highest quality for playing audio on YouTube and for matching your audio tracks to the audio tracks of user-uploaded videos. Note that an audio track would only be played back on YouTube if you have opted to include that track in YouTube's AudioSwap program. Generally, we recommend that you upload the highest quality audio possible.

For a high-quality image and small video file size, YouTube recommends uploading your videos in MP4 format with a 16:9 aspect ratio, as well as H.264 video codec and AAC audio codec (types of compression software that transfer image and sound). However YouTube also accepts any of the following video formats:

There are a few guidelines to consider before you take your video content to YouTube. To make publishing your media go as seamlessly as possible, here are a few things to know before uploading videos:

Virtually, the way to upload HD video to YouTube is the same as posting the standard video. Just make certain the uploading videos are original and in 720p/1080p/4k high definition. For Beginners, you need to register a new YouTube account firstly. After that, follow the steps below:

As stated above, you should ensure your 720p/1080p/4k HD videos are in the formats that YouTube supports. These include MPEG4, WebM, WMV, FLV, 3GPP, MOV, AVI, and MEGSPS files. If not, Cisdem Video Converter for Mac enables you to convert HD videos to the best video format for YouTube.

When you are watching a video on Youtube, you get the option to change the quality of the video. The highest quality can be 4K and 1080p. Choosing the highest resolution gives you the best quality videos.

The quality of the YouTube video depends on the format and the frame rate of the video. It's important to know that not all videos are suitable for all devices. Suppose you want to get a better quality video. In that case, it's better to upload high-quality original files only as this will help preserve details and improve compression efficiency when generating your final videos.

1080p, also known as Full HD or FHD (full high definition), is a typical display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It's one of the most popular resolutions for HDTVs and monitors since it offers excellent pixel density, high definition, and excellent image quality.

Most people upload 25 or 30 fps videos on YouTube. This frame rate is ideal for capturing most sporting events and fast-action movies; however, it isn't suitable for high-speed cameras creating slow-motion effects.

But if you're interested in getting the most out of your videos, you'll want to stick to 1920 x 1080. We hope that this article helped you become more aware of choosing your best resolution for Youtube. Hopefully, you now have a better understanding of what resolution is best for you.

That includes using messaging apps such as WhatsApp, streaming music on Spotify or other services, browsing social media sites and the web, and watching videos. As a result, reducing mobile data usage is a concern for many.

Note that for 720p quality and above, YouTube also supports videos at 60FPS (frames per second) instead of the standard 30FPS. A higher FPS results in smoother video, but also more data usage, as you'd expect. YouTube also supports HDR video, which uses additional data, but as those videos aren't common at the time of writing, we haven't considered them here.

For reference, 480p is considered standard definition. 1080p is sometimes called "full HD," and is the highest quality that a lot of YouTube channels upload in. While 4K video isn't as widespread, many channels do provide 4K media.

The most important tip to cut down on data usage is to avoid watching YouTube videos in high resolutions while using mobile data. While watching any video, tap the three-dot Menu button at the top-right of the video to open a menu with options at the bottom.

In addition to the above, the YouTube app lets you set a general quality preference for all videos. This lets you avoid HD playback while on mobile data so that Auto mode doesn't decide to stream at 1080p.

To disable Autoplay, simply find the Autoplay slider at the top of any video and set it to the left position so it shows the Pause icon. After doing this, YouTube will stop loading new videos on its own. You can also tap your profile picture and go to Settings > Autoplay to disable it there.

On a related note, remember that because YouTube buffers videos as you watch, it will likely consume more data than the above calculations show. To maximize your data savings, always pause a video if you don't intend to continue watching it.

At $12 per month, YouTube Premium is a little expensive for what it offers. But if you watch a lot of YouTube, that subscription fee can pay for itself in the data charges you save. You can download a batch of videos when you're on Wi-Fi at home, then watch them on the go without using data.

Now that you know how much data watching YouTube uses, you can make informed decisions about how much to stream each month. By limiting HD viewing to Wi-Fi and disabling autoplay, you can still enjoy some YouTube videos on the go without sucking up too much data.

YouTube Premium is a paid membership, of the YouTube platform. It gives an ad-free, offline viewing, and enhanced experience across all of Google's video, and music services and all YouTube sites. A YouTube Premium subscription cost in India starts at just Rs 139 per month and Rs 399 for three months. This service gives us access to ad-free video playback (continued playback in the background for both music and video service even when your mobile screen is locked), offline music and video downloads. With a YouTube Premium membership, one can download videos and music on devices to watch and listen offline for up to 30 days without an active internet connection available. 2ff7e9595c
